Representing DS+R’s The Shed

Course: ADR 1, Joshua Uhl (Fall 2019)

This physical model and video was created for ADR 1, an architectural representation course within Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation (GSAPP). The sculptural architectural model and the childlike video endeavor to question the accessibility and social impact of The Shed, a cultural arts center in New York’s Hudson Yards. In the video, the playful Shed travels across the streets of New York, referencing the absurdity of the $500 million building on wheels and its geographic inaccessibility to New York’s low-income residents. In response to The Shed, Oliver Wainwright comments, “The dream of a brave future of movable architecture, it seems, remains best observed in 1960s drawings.”
